Overview
Mt Toubkal, also known as Jebel Toubkal locally, rises 4167m above sea level and offers stunning panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains. This trek spans three days, allowing you to ascend and descend North Africa’s highest peak, with a glimpse into the life of Berber villagers along the way. Afterward, you can explore Marrakech, a vibrant city. In winter, the area transforms into a walker’s paradise, with uncrowded trails and breathtaking views of the Toubkal Massif.

Accommodation
In Marrakech, we will spend 2 nights in a Riad/hotel in the Medina. We enjoy one night in a family guest house, with good good-sized room and shared facilities and a large roof terrace with views up to Toubkal. At Basecamp, you will stay in large mixed-sex, dormitory-style rooms with basic facilities, but there is hot running water and showers and a small shop selling soft drinks and snacks.
Where a single supplement is available, paying for a single will only guarantee a room for single use. It does not necessarily mean a twin or double room will be provided for sole occupancy.
Please note that a member of the group may be allocated a single room by default if the make-up of the group means there isn’t anyone for them to share with. Paying the supplement in advance is the only way to guarantee a single room.

All crampons must be fitted to an appropriate boot. Fitting a pair of crampons to an insufficiently sturdy or rigid boot can lead to crampons coming loose, and accidents. The crampons required for this trip are C1 crampons (entry-level mountain crampons). A C1 crampon should be fitted to a B1 boot. A B1 boot is a 3 to 4-season walking boot with a rigid or semi-rigid sole, and good (high and stiff) ankle support. The guides will check all participant’s boots before the trek to confirm they are compatible with the crampons to be used.

Day 1:
Start Marrakech
- Depending on your arrival time, there may be time to independently explore this wonderfully colourful city.
Day 2: Morning transfer to Imlil; hike to Chamharouch’s shrine for lunch. Afternoon walk to Toubkal Base Camp refuge
After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and drive to Imlil. Continuing on foot from here to Arroumd which is a short walk of approximately one hour, we follow winding mule tracks for another 5 hours. This is a stunning walk through the breathtaking mountain scenery of the valley of Ait Mizan. We stop for lunch at the Marabout of Sidi Chamharouch before continuing on to Toubkal Base Camp (3207m) for our first night in the mountains.
Day 3: Early ascent of Toubkal, return to the refuge for lunch and back to Arroumd
We start very early for our Toubkal ascent (4am), walking over rocky paths as there is less vegetation at this altitude. There are long sections of scree, where the climb becomes challenging due to the loose rock. Once we pass the 4000m point, we can appreciate the magnificent panoramic views across the tranquil valleys and lower summits of the High Atlas Range. The achievement of standing on the summit is unforgettable and the views from the summit are simply magnificent. To the north we can see the fertile plains of Alhaouze and Marrakech, and to the south, the wild rugged landscape of the pre-Sahara. All around us are the many jagged peaks of the High Atlas stretching into the distance.
We descend to the refuge for lunch, then continue our descent to Arroumd and our gite for the night. This is a long but extremely rewarding day of walking.
Day 4: Short walk to Imlil; drive to Marrakech
The short walk down to Imlil is followed by the drive back towards Marrakech, where we are going to have a Moroccan Hammam experience to get rid of the dead skin and tiredness. Meet our guide early evening to lead us through the alleyways for a tour in the Medina. Then have free time to explore the Djemaa el Fna and the souks, a must for some serious bargaining for souvenirs. Meet up at 7 for a farewell dinner.
Day 5: Departure
The Toubkal Ascent trip is finished after breakfast.
